failure + success

aka how to make 2 laces skirts for under $10

step 1: buy blue-ish lace curtain for $3.99 at thrift store, launder, and discover it turned a blue/grey hue

step 2: buy xl maxi skirt at target for $4.50, be too lazy to launder, and vow never to dry finished product

step 3: cut frilly bottom length off skirt in hopes of sewing lace overlay
step 4: align lace and hope for the best
step 5: begin sewing lace on upside down [intentionally mind you], then fold lace over previous hem and overstitch
step 6: attempt to sew waistband for elastic
step 7: end up with unbelievably poufy failure.
step 8: be rather pissed off
step 9: cut lace off instead of unpicking 8 million stitches
step 10: realize poufy skirt with lace waistband is actually kind of cute
step 11: repeat steps 4 and 5

fin.
worn with my new lace scarf from target which ..is actually gray.  instead of faded blueish gray that actually looks blue in natural light.  the skirt is a bit big even at hip level, but as long as i wear it with a tucked-in shirt the massive amounts of static electricity should hold it up just fine.

  1. This is a great idea, and it turned out SO cute!! How fortunate that you had a perfectly-matched scarf as well. Lol about the static. I *totally* understand! :-D

I'm so glad you joined in the Lace theme!
