as a kid, i didnt play dress up with mommy's makeup. she didnt teach me how to wear eye liner or shadow or anything like that. she taught me things like perseverance, self respect, and how to be friendly but a hardass.. but that's beside the point. she also has pricey hypoallergenic makeup that i cant afford. i generally prefer revlon. fortunately the internet has taught me all about makeup, and this one time i read a blog post by the lovely laura about makeup.
laura posted about eyeshadow primer and answered a question i posed regarding .... wtf is eye shadow primer??? welp we asian ladies have a genetic trait resulting in a different type of eyelid than white people. while it may have developed as an evolutionary benefit long ago.. it is a all consuming bitch to eye makeup. eye shadow is eaten up by my eyelids and all but dissolves within hours. eyeliner [which ive worn every day since the beginning of college in an attempt not to look 14] sloughs off in sheets of disappointment.
enter the world of shadow primer. i bought the brand laura recommended and thought jesus h christ. not even half an ounce for $13+?? what fresh hell is this?
welp according to amazon, i bought my first tube december 2012. i bought a refill september 2013 cos i figured it would be out by then.. and i only just finished the tube this month. so 13 months of non-smudgy eyeliner that doesnt fade away into oblivion in a sad greasy mess. ...just over the 12 month recommended expiration date of makeup. but whatevs. for $1 a month its more than worth it. and for all of the 4 times ive probably worn eyeshadow in the past year, totally worth it. even with freakin $3.45 shipping now.
srsly. it weighs a 50th of the cost of a freakin first class letter. that shit costs $.48 to mail. i think.
LOL Liz. Drugstore brands make primer now, too, and sometimes you can layer cream eye shadows under powder ones to make things last longer. What kind of liner do you use? Pencil?
ReplyDeletei use revlon colorstay eyeliner "crayon" set in the corners with black shadow. i tend to poke myself in the eye early in the morning so pencils are out... and the liquid liners ive tried arent dark enough
Deletei use a pencil. i can't use liquid. this was a very funny post. i'll look around and see if i have primer samples...i'm sure i do. i don't use a primer, but i do layer three shadows on top of each other. the end.
ReplyDeleteturns out primer is quite helpful. if you have some, try it. but you are one of those "needs expensive hypoallergenic" types... so..
