cupcake punks

i were in a gang or a band.. i'd want to be known as the cupcake punks.  but really, this post is about peanut butter steampunk sprinkled cupcakes.  6 of one, half dozen of another, eh?
in $1 spot michael's cupcake liners.  theyre cute and floral and yellow...which blends weirdly with the yellow cake and tan frosting.  its the thought that counts, no?

big ass cookies

i've never claimed reading comprehension is a strong suit of mine.  most recently my mom, sister, and i were trying to find a restaurant in augusta for lunch.  that is augusta, maine, mind you.  not augusta, georgia.  i googled "restaurants in augusta" and chose the midprice range.  what?  indian?  tapas?  burritos?  more burritos?  a sweetery?  i sent several links and some menus to the fam and the reply was "well those are all very nice looking but were not driving to augusta georgia.."

shit.

banana chocolate chip cookies!

years ago [4 apparently] i acquired a recipe for banana cookies.  they are deliciously light and fluffy with minimal gagging banana taste.

sonp 2013...or not

sooooo summer of no pants sewing extravaganza!  ... i tripped at the finish line.  so incredibly badly.  its been over for over a week.  aaand i still havent done a 4th project.  i hemmed some dresses on friday.. and consulted with an old college friend about altering her mom's wedding dress..  and took lots of naps..  and am wearing skirts cos its just too damn hot for pants.

but sewing fail.  sigh.  marigold, i feel like ive failed you . stay tuned for more projects this summer.  promise.

sonp 2013 - tight tatted teal

and no i dont mean tattooed.  tatted.  like lace.  but i think its crocheted.  but basically its a stretch knit tube dress with an "applique" purchased on etsy.  i have no idea what a venice applique is so i call it a crocheted thinger.  anyway, project 3 of the summer of no pants

sonp 2013 commence!!

the summer of no pants [name and possible snark patent pending by marigold] returns!!  for my first item i rescued a remnant of sheer paisley fabric from my first attempt at ...something.  well before the first pic was taken [apparently back in 2011], it was a sort of wrap skirt with a faux leather belt and after tedious serging and hem rolling... i realized i would not have any way to wash it.. ever.  so back to the sewing bin of failed/UFOs it went.

sonp 2013!

aka the summer of no pants!  hosted by marigold of hideous! dreadful! stinky!  it *ahem* apparently happened last year, but i missed it.  basically its a dress and skirt sew fest starting in may and lasting all summer!  pics and links and blogs and google+ [which i'm still trying to freaking figure out..] and then you eschew pants [which i generally do] and wear and post all the lovely things youve made during may!

some ideas that ive pinned and will attempt this starting ... oh gawd.  next week.

*edit.  i rechecked the date for SONP.  end of may.  thank god.*

we'll see.  skirts and i def have a better history of fit and finish... but i really do need to figure out this whole muslin technique that may actually result in something correctly fitting my shoulders.

pumpkinhead spice cake

made for a coworker's birthday.  we joke that he turned 60.  grumbly old man.  but in reality ...he's probably mid 40s?  maybe?  he has a 5 year old daughter but that really means he could be anywhere from 20 to 80.  soooo yea.  but pumpkinhead cake.

amazing.

and spicy.  aside from the usual cloves, cinnamon, and ginger, i added just a tidbit of chipotle powder.  and you can juuuuuust taste a hint of it.  best idea ever.

and frankly, the frosting didnt look that good when i stuffed the cake in my overflowing fridge last night.  i couldnt wait for the cake layers to fully cool cos it was already after 11 and i was exhausted..so it got a little melty on the sides.  fortunately the butter ratio was such that i could scoop the excess frosting up off the cake carrier this morning and smoosh it back onto the sides.  and no one was the wiser.  but now you know.  ...

sweet, spicy, and sloth?

andes mint chip whoopie pies may constitute several of the seven deadly sins.  well most probably gluttony, greed, and lust.  and since i baked them a bit of pride, some wrath [as with all baking], perhaps envy if i dont share with my whole office, and definitely sloth after eating.  so there.  all 7.  excellent.

pulled pork and whoopie pies

not from the same day.  but both stellar nonetheless.
the pork was [grass fed organic] from the farmer's market and i paid ... a lot.  seared and dumped in the crock pot with soy, kecap manis, rice vinegar, ginger, garlic, pepper flakes, and ...some chicken breasts that i had leftover.
