the new roommate
what has 3 pairs of legs, retractable antennae/stink ports, and poops a lot?
a carrot-top eating caterpillar!
note 3 sets of legs, 4 sets of pseudopods, no spines, no hairs, and.... failed attempt at biological classification. just google "green caterpillar yellow spot black stripe" et voila! an eastern black swallowtail caterpillar in its 5th instar [life stage]!
osmetria [stink ports] that emerge and retract after a light poke to the head
internet, meet karl the caterpillar. karl, please stop pooping all over your nice little teapothome. and please chrysalis soon as we dont want to hold you all winter. kthxbai.

heat lightning
on a gorgeous night. it wasnt technically a thunderstorm at this point and fortunately it wasnt raining during our 2 block walk home from the grill night we had.
cue strauss

dyeing and sewing
remember the butter yellow dress i thrifted? now its a dark sage. and much improved if i do say so. now.. if i only had somewhere to wear it..
this calvin klein shirt/tunic/thing has been worn a grand total of once since i bought it 3+ years ago now. but after cutting off the awkwardly long straps and adding elastic... its a pleated skirt!
i love the remnants bin at joann's. danger zone. i bought green vinyl and sheer paisley brown/green/orange fabric. and made a wrap skirt/dress thing. i have no idea how i will ever wash it... but that is beside the point.
and finally...the white dress from ny&co that i wore once to school and once for a ballroom dance event got dipped in the dye bath along with the first dress. granted, i have multiple items in the same colors, but i decided a very light mint would be nice. a tad darker than i intended, but maybe with a few more washes it will lighten. then again rit dye is rather toxic and supposedly permanent so.. perhaps it wont.
fin.

garden stuff and blue skies
street sign in islandia
my thai basil returning from the brink of death
a bell pepper actually turning redish?
eggplant
produce on a scarf
my 3 canvas prints! groupon is having yet another sale for canvas on demand prints. though i have to say, i ordered the sumner beach print through cafepress and they actually gave me 2" for free. instead of the 16x20, they printed a 16x22 so the sky and sand would be included. pretty frikkin sweet bonus

liz's laundry
here is a ridic number of "what i wore" pics. highlights: big hair, a surprising amount of color, and shorts. see the very last pic for my awesome braid that withstood 2 overly giddy windows and roof open driving trips [actually traveling above 70 instead of at a lurching standstill] on the southern state and the LIE!
to whet your appetite for poorly lit outfit shots...
rather badly matched ombre nails like a pin i found, and a green version of the bracelet cf.

lewin berries
a saturday adventure to lewin farm turned out highly successful
red raspberries, golden raspberries, blackberries: $3.75 a pound. not a pint. not a half pint. per pound. and blackberries are a bit heavy..but a pound of raspberries is a shitload. thats the official weight designation. shitload.

proverbs
the sound of crisp clean sheets will bring a black cat running
few flowers under a mulberry tree avoid purple bird shit
talking to plants is not a sign of crazy. expecting an answer may be.

a new dress
pinning fabric to my dress form is always much easier than sewing. but it gives me a general idea of what the hell im doing. ie cutting a slit for an arm hole...and semi-ruching the side.
voila:
one shoulder non-hoochy leopard dress
the back is surprisingly flattering as well
shoulder is a sort of knot , but i sewed down the two end tabs to avoid any future wardrobe malfunctions. plus i dont like my clothes unintentionally flapping.
the side. and a very clear shot of what the fabric looks like. it turns out.. i much prefer the "bright light" cfls to the yellowy "real" warm light of the ones trying to look like incandescent. idk about LEDs..as i cant afford that shit at the moment. and yes we have been discussing lighting colors and pricing at work. frequently and persistently. im not just blabbing on crazily.
