recent events
found a MASSIVE bulbous spider in the bathroom...after i took the picture it ran away into a crack in the floor. lovely.
we had a power outage
found a bunch of candles [after roommate michael sat in the dark for 3 hours..]
leah got home from germany and brought me chocolates!
and we had yet another massive downpour. woohoo.
tomatoes!
grape tomatoes and some random something... my first real tomato! possibly an heirloom from the 4 plants neighbor bob gave me
but its such a tease... the underside rotted on the vine. laaaame.
my second ripe tomato! also possibly an heirloom... from some unnamed "heirloom tomato" plant from home depot
this shot shows off off my manicure. i put up with a nail file pretty much only cos i was a little hungover and had a head full of hair dye.

nassau county public works makes good [?] use of old street signs
as umm.. part of their drainage system? wtf.
i showed one the guys on the concrete crew this and he was like "holy shit, guys come check this out"
we were all bewildered to say the least. beside the fact that its pretty ghetto..
vegetarian inari! i assumed all inari was vegetarian..since its rice in a tofu pocket.. but the extra veggies made for a more filling snack/breakfast/lunch and it was a nice contrast
sleepy high color contrast kitty
part of a project ive been working on. inspired by this.

garden update
everything but the snow peas and now the yellow squash is thriving, including the tomato and basil transplants.
staked are no less than 7 tomatoes, and there are maybe 8 more that grew from seed and are beginning to produce baby tomatoes! looking quite a bit healthier [and rearranged] from my original pics.
and now for closeups:
grape tomato plant going insane

backhoe gardening
the remains of a tree removed by backhoe
what i see pretty much every day for the past month [not pictured: 99 degree heat and 80% humidity]
my grape tomato is going insane. probably about 40 little green lumps shooting off in every direction
grape tomato's amazing technicolor dream coat!
a lone snapdragon... self seeded from last year? i am apparently horrible at clearing out my beds. note to self: weed remaining nasties and cover with mulch

naturific long island
when i think of LI i still conjure images of horrific traffic, jersey hair, and nasal accents. but it can be quite beautiful. honest. i still cannot be convinced a lifelong stay is in my future. but ill stay another 2 years.
animal footie prints in fresh concrete
sunset on the north shore
same sunset seen thru trees while descending the most terrifying stairs ever [holding beers]
public baseball field in massapequa
i hate birds. they are flying rats. disease carrying little beady eyed beggers. but goslings are fluffy and kind of adorable. while i was taking this though the mother was charging at me hissing. so i ran back to my car and sped away.

latest [kind of lame] sewing
pac sun/roxy dress i bought online 2 years ago for <$10. i wore it once..and it is both unflattering in the midsection and way too long. now being the atypical asian i am 5'5" [standing up straight] and close to average height. unless the dress is supposed to drag 3" on the ground or is only meant for freakishly tall people. ie not me. so instead of donating it to goodwill or the likes, i thought..hm. what do bad dress + rotary blade + sewing machine = ?
check out marisa's blog for my inspiration...
mini dress [4" above the knee..nothing slutty] that is still..mildly unflattering! yay effort.. but i will be sending it to a certain someone who has been fruitlessly summer-dress-shopping. and it will look much better on her. or at her local goodwill. cos theres nothing like expanding the carbon footprint by a cross-country mailing.
floofy hippie skirt! elastic waistband for ease of creation instead of that whole zipper thing. this whole endeavor took about... half an hour.

ominous fortune
umm that isnt very happy or helpful.
i feel it may be a warning as i have officially told the boss i will be attending grad school in the fall. receiving this fortune the day after is not enough to convince me of any weird astrology/fate things..but its a wee bit frightening. ::insert dodos here:: dooooom on youuuu.
skirt season
since ive been out in the field in the midst of a record breaking heat wave.. i mostly look like a sweaty dirty schlump. so no pictures.

food, not food, frank
an egg bagel glows
sunlit olive cream cheesey
delicioso.
spider babies burst egg sacs
and could be killed with several whacks
but spider goo is quite disturbing
and spider bits are quite perturbing
