bridges

the manhattan bridge.  connecting chinatown and vinegar hill.  aka dumbo.  which was explained to me as down-under-mahnattan-bridge-overpass.  not glamorous in either sense.  but whatever.
all bright and sun-lit in 15 degree weather and high winds
god forbid anyone should try and access the footing for the brooklyn bridge.  razor wire yo.
the brooklyn bridge.  the other suspension bridge connecting chinatown and dumbo.  why build another bridge right next to it?  eeeh idk.
view from the bridge [under construction] and the itty bitty statue of liberty
looks like a beginning art class.  "ok kids, these are perspective lines.  they all reach a vanishing point, can you tell where it is?  no?  then you should probably be in a gym class."

autumn in nyc

union square park from the 4th floor of filene's basement
trying to balance the ridiculously sunny day and the brilliant blue sky.  lighting fail.
an amazing east village bakery you should visit
click to enlarge the awesomeness.  i had a mini hazelnut tart as a pre-dinner snack.  slightly crispy base filled with hazelnut creme, topped with chopped hazelnuts and a dollop of nutella.  bella e delicioso!

and we found a great place for dinner: mexicana mama
  • ~$30 for drink and entree
  • decor: a bit dim but not gaudy
  • music: overly loud
  • service: quite good
  • chips and guac: excellente [not greasy or overly salty]
  • portions: what normal people should eat [read: not chipotle sized]
we had happy hour drinks [blood orange margarita] and i admired the rainbow of jarritos behind the bar.  reading reviews post-visit, i realize we were quite lucky to get a table. we met at 6:45 on a tuesday, so probably earlier than the regular dinner crowd.  we were one of 3 tables when we started eating, and after an average-length meal the other 8 tables were at capacity.
plus there was quite the assortment of pickled jalapenos and cans of unknown dulces.  for actual food i had the taco de puerco-chili pork with cheese and beans, a side of rice and guac.  many of the foods are purported to be made with "chihuahua cheese" which...is not nearly as frightening as it sounds.  in fact it is not made of dogs.  or by dogs.  its...ooey gooey goodness.

in a nutshell: teeny tiny restaurant, good food, a little pricey.

weekend mishmash

lemon cream and milky way pie/no bake cheesecakes from curry and comfort, made with neufchatel cheese and light/low fat [chemical high] cool whip and homemade graham cracker crust.  [harvey wallbanger cupcakes with triplesec cream cheese frosting on the very right].  background-hand painted pong table.  which is my excuse for a crappy crappy picture of homemade desserts.
seen in brooklyn.  idk if its just an art piece or if its the faile/bast studio
also in brooklyn

THE BIIIIRDS.  again.  christ theyre everywhere.
overly artsy tree/sunset/cityscape shot.  is hipster contagious?

penny for your thoughts

literally.

did you know there was a new penny? it looks weird and fake. and it probably was released 8 months ago. shows how much i use cash and pay attention to loose change.

birthday angry stitch. gmail, apple, twitter, youtube

carnival ticket canopy at anthropologie. idk why i even went into this store. who buys a $200 cotton dress. but...the bed display made it worth it. until i looked at the price of a set of sheets and almost vomited. dont buy the hype kids.

some other overpriced store's decor. pretty amazing display as it was on all other walls. unfortunately people that shop at this store im sure have never even touched a sewing machine much less used one. but omg its so artsy and it makes the store that much hipper and swanky when i buy my expensive unnecessary shite some poor starving kid in china made with his 4 remaining fingers after the horrible sweatshop accident of '06. but i digress.

obligatory frank photo. the duvet matches his pissed off eyes so nicely!
