s[nooooooo]w

perhaps you've heard new england is experiencing some blizzards.  and by some i mean somewhere in the neighborhood of 3 feet of snow [as of the 4th] in the portland area, aka moi.
here are some post [first] blizzard pics of the lighthouses of south portland.  only edits have been cropping from cell phone size/ratio.

downtown portland

the relative calm before the... lack of a storm.  we were under a severe thunderstorm warning for about 3/4 of the day.  it rained, but the crazy held off.

cloudy vermont skies

my family spent july 4th weekend in vermont to see my sister play with the vermont symphony orchestrasecond annual family adventure, now, with less carbreakdowncrises!

cider and solar

probably one of the snobbiest/artsiest pics ive taken.  and i love it.  the blue and the patina on the truck with pv tech in the background, the dark clouds rolling in, and the green green grass.  that's pretty much vermont in a nutshell, epitomized at the cold hollow cider mill in waterbury.

sunset

you might think i'm obsessed with sunset and theres some deep symbolic meaning there.  a day coming to a close, approaching the dark of night which lends itself to a new day.  err no.  it just looks cool as shit in maine.  and yes i am obsessed.  just a bit..

crabapples

i'd say these are pretty self explanatory.  the miniature park between my office and the parking garage may be fenced off now to keep homeless people from sleeping in it.. but it does still have some gorgeous foliage.

hdr skies over sopo

my fancy pants new phone shoots oddly proportioned high def pics.  it also has an auto hdr sensor which i may turn off since i feel the pics below are over processed.  they were all taken on a surprisingly cold windy spring day at the former fort preble site on the smcc campus.

post-solstice skies

yep thats the moon.  and some icicles as evidence of the poor poor insulation value of my house.  and me creepin on the neighbors.  at 7am.  im working different hours at the weekday job [THANK GOD] and i no longer have to leave the house in pitch black every morning.  due to the additional minutes of daylight i am also leaving work juuuuust as "civil twilight" is fading.
and i do not love snow.  but its so clean and pretty for the first few hours

sun time

i love sunsets.  maine we only see "fake" sets since its the east coast and all.  but gorgeous nonetheless.  lately though, ive been seeing some amazing sunrises.  and yes.  sunrise is freakishly early.  every day.  and i see them all.  cos i dont get to sleep past 6am any more.  sigh.  work.  but driving over the fore river every morning, i get to see the sun rise over portland.  unless its crappy weather.  ...then its just dark as fuck.
but i dont get any pics cos im driving.  so heres another sunset.
but here's a sunrise.  out the front window of my house.  [completely opposite direction]  not as spectacular as downtown portland silhouetted against the water, but safest pic i can get.

cemetery dq sunset

one gorgeous august evening while debating if i should get some ice cream or get some exercise... i remembered both was an option!  i live .8 miles from a dairy queen.  DANGEROUS.  i drove a couple times when it was 94 degrees.  but i decided the sun was just setting, the temperature was a balmy 70 and humidity was barely noticeable.

sunset obsessed

driving home one night i was cursing myself for not having my camera.  but the lighting was pretty perfect so i ...drove into the industrial zone near my house and parked in the "NO TRESSPASSING" zone.  im a rebel.  i know.

happenings, aka the haps

i stumbled across a delightful blog awhile ago, harper's happenings back when mandy was doing hott - high on thrifting thursdays.  even though she stopped the thrift linkup, i keep reading.  mandy's writing is pretty delightful and entertaining [she swears much less than i do] and she manages to keep the OMG MY BABIES ARE THE BEST EVER to a minimum.  also, no religious propaganda shoved in your face.  check it yo.

but my haps.
i gots a new boiler and converted my heat and hot water from oil to natural gas.  i dont necessarily believe in and support the ways that natural gas is harvested/collected/obtained... but its the lesser of two evils at the moment.  slightly.  and its cheaper.

two lights. yet again.

welp i think ive now posted pictures of this beach/shoreline twice on the blog.  but its still gorgeous and i am in complete awe every time i go.  the only unfortunate part was it was a perfectly balmy 75 degrees and breezy after two freak 95 degree days... and i got so incredibly burned i'm surprised my entire back hasnt peeled off by now.  and there was pain.  so much unable-to-move-shoulders-and-upper-back pain.

the oob

aka old orchard beach.  some pics i took back in april that never made it online.  really..oob is a crazy drunk tourist spot [the pier is all bars] and a family vacation destination.  both things i like to avoid generally, so i prob wont be going back until after the season.  umm being april though it was about 45 degrees.  i was barefoot...
