cross country skiing and allergy adventures

long ago and far away [high school] i was diagnosed with cold urticaria.  believe me when i say, DO NOT GOOGLE IMAGE THAT SHIT.  basically, i break out in hives if its too cold.  fortunately, multiple allergy pills [every goddamn day] help quell the breakouts and allow me to survive in maine.  polar vortex, record snowfall, and all.  buuuuuuut a friend came to town and we went cross country skiing.  an outdoor pasttime i had been interested in for awhile, but had just never tried.  we ventured out on a gorgeously sunny, clear, 10 degree day, and with windchill it was probably well below that.

birthday weekend!

this weekend i hosted a roaring 20's [on a budget] birthday party for myself.  i made the requisite pinterest board, compiling the looks and styles and drinks i liked for the theme, bought a bunch of fringe and sequin trim to .... hoard forever, and then ended up spending about $100 on ingredients, alcohol, and decorations.  i found a dress i had purchased back in long island [atleast 4+ years ago now] which hadnt ever really fit, and that id tried to consign atleast once.  it was a $300 sample sale dress which i think i paid $40 for.  but it fit the theme perfectly, and finally fit me, but i couldnt bring myself to add any extra sparkle.  subtle is better, no?

whiskey tiiiiiiime

i can't pretend to remember all the history and processes of the new england distillery, but it was by far one of the more informative and entertaining booze tours ive ever done.  i had a 4-person groupon that was on the verge of expiring, so i dragged my sister along for the ride.  we stood in the one room garage with a group of 8 other people, as the guide [and one of 4 employees] gave the story behind the wight family, let us smell [not drink] each level of distilling product, and then poured samples of their rye whiskey, rum, and gin.

sunday i had [very] tentative brunch plans so i set my alarm for a reasonable 8:30am and decided to finally try out a prezel recipe id been holding onto for years.

kinds of fuel

holy crap you guys.  i saw fuel.  back together.  for $13!!  high school dream fulfilled!  it was pretty much what i expected, and they played all the old hits ...and a new song from their soon-to-be-released album.  um... not so great, but i have high hopes for the rest of the album.

further adventures in portland

on the request of the seester's boyfriend, we ventered into both coast city comics and casablanca comics.  according to him [this was maybe my second time in a comic book store...ever] coast city was more what he was looking for - slightly dingy, underground, a little hipster, but dear god not so terribly mainstream like casablanca.

adventures of the interior kind

in the grocery store the other day, the maine home + design magazine called out to me.  the last issue i bought was ...probably about a year ago, and was all about their super-insulated eco homes and designers.  this one was interior design and sadly... was a little disappointing.

asian dinner

but, wait, you say.  that looks like cheesey jalapeno boats with crab cake and arugula and a curry beef pot pie in a crispy filo/croissant hybrid dough with beet salad.  that's not asian..

birthday weekend!

thursday was my 27th birthday!  late 20's have begun with... an early snowfall, walking to work in a mini-hail storm, and ridiculous deluge of 33 degree rain.  oh weather.

regardless, close friends braved the flooding to celebrate tacos and margaritas with me!
newly discovered picasa collage function.  like a phone app.  only better
